SimplifyMTD is designed to help landlords manage their Making Tax Digital responsibilities while protecting their account, HMRC connection and property tax records.
We know that tax information is sensitive. That is why security is built into the way SimplifyMTD handles sign in, HMRC authorisation, data access and account closure.
SimplifyMTD uses secure account controls to help protect user access.
Passwords are protected using modern password hashing techniques. We also use email based multi factor authentication when users sign in, helping to make sure that access to an account is not based on a password alone.
To reduce the risk of unauthorised access, SimplifyMTD also uses protections such as login rate limiting, account lockout controls and secure server side sessions.
SimplifyMTD connects to HMRC using HMRC's official authorisation process.
When you connect your HMRC account, you are redirected to HMRC or Government Gateway. You sign in directly with HMRC, not through SimplifyMTD.
SimplifyMTD does not ask you to enter your Government Gateway password into our service.
Once authorised, SimplifyMTD stores the HMRC connection securely so that the software can help you keep digital records and make Making Tax Digital submissions.
SimplifyMTD stores the information needed to provide the service, such as property records, income and expense figures, submission records and relevant account details.
Sensitive identifiers and HMRC connection details are protected with encryption at application level.
Access to account data is controlled on the server, and users are only able to access records linked to their own account.
For more information about how personal data is used, please read our Privacy Policy.
SimplifyMTD uses input checks and server side validation to help prevent incorrect or unexpected data from being processed.
We also monitor errors so that technical issues can be investigated and resolved. Where error information is collected, safeguards are used to reduce the risk of sensitive personal or tax information being included.
Users can close their SimplifyMTD account.
As part of account closure, SimplifyMTD can provide an export of submission information. Closed accounts have a reactivation period before personal data is scheduled for deletion.
Some anonymised information may be retained where needed for operational, legal or statistical purposes.
